CAREER PATHWAYS

Bay Venues is an organisation where there's a lot of room to move and grow. We have more than 300 people working across 24 community facilities in Tauranga, with job opportunities in events, aquatics, catering, corporate services, audio visual, and more!

When you join the Bay Venues whānau, career pathways abound. There are opportunities to upskill and learn on the job, explore different fields and ways of working, and progress to other jobs, teams, and departments within the organisation.

We welcome and encourage curiosity and self improvement.

Many of our people have worked in several different jobs at Bay Venues over the years and have seized new opportunities and vacancies around them. Check out a bite-sized sample below...

Annalise Klay | Sports & Community Activation Manager

Annalise started her career at Bay Venues as a Casual Receptionist at Baypark Arena. Before too long, she moved into a full-time Receptionist role and was promoted to Senior Receptionist across all our aquatic centres. Annalise changed departments in 2020 and became the Community Programmes Coordinator based at Baypark Arena. She is now Sports & Community Activation Manager, overseeing social sports leagues and sport and play programmes for the community.

Mike Page | Aquatics Operations Manager

Mike started his career at Bay Venues as a Lifeguard at the Mount Hot Pools. Over the course of two years, he progressed to a Team Leader position and then Aquatic Supervisor. Soon after, he was promoted to the role of Mount Hot Pools Manager and about two years later, after a short period also assisting as Otumoetai Pool Manager, he moved into the role of Baywave Centre Manager. He is now in the new position of Aquatics Operations Manager, overseeing the operation of all five aquatic centres in the Bay Venues network.

Sarah-Jane Odgers | Customer Experience Manager

SJ started her career with Tauranga’s aquatic venues in 2005, initially as the Company Secretary. In 2009, she moved into a new role of Executive Assistant/Customer Service Manager, looking after the Chief Executive and Board of Directors while also managing the reception teams based at Baywave, the Mount Hot Pools, and Clubfit Baywave. SJ then moved into another new role of Bookings and Reception Manager in 2012, looking after the bookings for our five aquatic centres, managing the reception teams at our aquatic centres and Baypark Arena, and running our retail stores. In 2022, SJ took on the newly established role of Customer Experience Manager, taking in a lead in ensuring our customers are enjoying exceptional experiences across our network of venues.

What do you love the most about working for Bay Venues? I love the fact that no day is ever the same. So much exciting stuff happens in our venues every day and it is fantastic to be a part of that.
